“…the moment I had this box of colors in my hands,
I had the feeling that my life was there.”
Tamura Price began her art education observing the world around her in its bold colors, forever shifting patterns
and delicate forms. Children’s books told the stories but it was the illustrations that captured her imagination. A gifted mimic of favorite illustrators emerged
developing a style of her own and a keen eye for the unnoticed - the simplistic beauty that arrests, and startles wonder awake. It is her constant
joy to attempt to recreate these observations in a variety of mediums where color, pattern and shape play the leading roles.
a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at University of Tampa. For a decade, Tamura designed, created,
and marketed her own line of jewelry and unique crafts. Returning to her love of books after
graduation, she worked for several years in the publishing industries before becoming a teacher.
Tamura continues to work in the arts by teaching and inspiring new young artists.
This art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
Everything and anything can be an inspiration to me! An amazing sunset, a stirring piece of music, the drop of dew on a spider web, that moment when a perfect perspective aligns, or a sudden flash of an image in my mind.
My muse is always with me!
I don't like to be constrained by the picture plane. My favorite technique is to paint Off The Edge.
It gives the illusion of active space outside of the viewer's picture
plane. On my original stretched canvas paintings, the side edges are a
continuation of the artwork. This adds a wonderful effect when the
viewer moves around the artwork and provides a more intimate relationship with the piece.
I am a self taught painter, so I am often inventing my own particular techniques. I especially like to use pure color right from the paint tube. Layered brushstrokes are a favorite technique. Lots of mixed media use and recycled art projects.
For drawing, I have a unique style that has evolved over many years of doodling. I call it "Jigsaw" because it reminds me of jigsaw puzzle shapes. I am always finding new ways to explore with this style!
